Justice League Vs Suicide Squad #1

The long awaited battle between good and …well… anti-hero has begun in Justice League Vs Suicide Squad #1. Perhaps this 6 part event will help increase the interest of the Justice League Rebirth team by  pitting them against loveable characters like Killer croc, Deadshot, and the most popular Harley Quinn.

The book starts you with a jailbreak from a highly classified detention hall. The worst of the worst villains are detained there and forgotton until, a mysterious being breaks them out. Meanwhile, The Suicide Squad is in a different location trying to neutralize a giant world ending threat. Killer Frost, the newest member of the team, is fighting the baddies and trying to figure out what is the point of doing these missions. Thanks to the recent movie, her teammates on this mission are Killer croc, Enchantress, Captain Boomerang, El Diablo, Harley Quinn, and their squad leader Deadshot. After the banter between one another, the Squad finds themselves confronting the Justice League. But why!? Why now!?

At first, Justice League Vs Suicide Squad is a very catchy title, but the longer you think about it, the more one would wonder “Why does the Justice League want to fight the Suicide Squad?” We know that the squad is compiled of a bunch of vile villains that gets their sentences reduced if they complete impossible missions that the illustrious Amanda Waller provides. We also know that if they disobey an order or they go AWOL, Waller uses the unremovable planted bomb in each member’s head that goes “KABLOOEY”. So, why does the Justice League sees the squad as a threat? Its very simple, because Batman finally notices this team and considers them a possible threat to society. If the Suicide Squad was a team that was recently created, this would make sense but, they have been around for over 25 years! For the “World’s Greatest Detective” to just NOW consider them a threat is completely comical. The story Joshua Williamson is setting up in this issue is fairly bland. Not only that the reason for the Justice League to aim for the Suicide Squad is bland, but the big reveal in the end was mediocre at best. When the true villains take a bigger part in the story, hopefully the interest will pick up. 

The art in Justice League Vs. Suicide Squad #1 is as alright. Some characters like Killer Frost and El Diablo look weird but some of them like the whole Justice League are great. I feel this was also due to the amazing colorist Alex Sinclair. I will say this, Justice League vs. Suicide Squad has a bunch of nonstop action and suprisingly, a lot of violence.  One can only hope for the story to pick up than the action.
