EVO 2025 has come and gone, but the memories from the conclusion of the tournament and the convention are still burning strong. During the event, Victrix unveiled its updated pro controller, the Victrix Pro BFG, compatible with both Xbox and PlayStation 5. The folks over at Victrix felt that the best way for me to get a good idea of the features for the new controller was by giving me one to put through its paces. To be completely transparent, I chose the Xbox controller because I was already planning to purchase one for my PC. I’ve never owned an Xbox, so my experience with Xbox controllers is limited. I’m an Xbox controller Noob!
Right out of the gate, the box for the Victrix Pro BFG controller is sturdy, with a clear picture of the controller. The controller features the XBOX brand colors with splashes of green. Upon opening the box, a hard-shelled case with the Victirx logo branded on top and a quick-start guide are revealed. Inside the case, the Victrix Pro BFG controller is front and center. Also included with the controller are 12 interchangeable buttons and modules, allowing you to customize the controller to your liking, along with a screwdriver to facilitate easy component changes.
The Victrix Pro BFG is a meaty controller that can be played wirelessly with a USB dongle or the provided threaded USB cable. The USB dongle was a simple plug-and-play device that worked without requiring the app to be downloaded. However, it’s essential to download the app not only to customize the buttons on the controller, but this is also how Turtle Beach pushes updates to the controller. During my playthrough with the controller, I didn’t notice much of a difference in latency when switching from wireless to wired. The joystick and button layout is familiar, but since this is my first Xbox controller, I replaced some of the modules to make it more comfortable for me. The mappable buttons on the back and trigger stops are where the Victrix Pro BFG controller really shines. The controller features four mappable buttons, which can be easily customized using the free Victrix Control Hub app. The triggers also offer some customizability; the controller features a patented five-stop trigger and a hair trigger mode for increased immersion and precision while on the battlefield. What that means is that you can set different stop points for your trigger buttons.
The Victrix Pro BFG also comes with a Dolby Atmos lifetime subscription, making audio adjustments a breeze. I didn’t have any issues with the controller dying during long gaming sessions. The Victrix Pro BFG includes a rechargeable battery that lasts up to twenty hours. Unless you’re planning on doing a twenty-four-hour stream, you won’t have to worry about it dying on you. The only gripe that I have with the controller is the weight. It’s a minor gripe, which can be attributed to my familiarity with the weight of the Sony DualSense Controller, but it would be amazing if weights could be added to the controller to match the DualSense feel. Again, this is a minor personal gripe that doesn’t take away from the performance of this wonderful controller.
To put the Victrix Pro BFG controller to the test, I played multiple games like Hell Divers 2, Warriors: Abyss, and 2XKO, switching out the modules that best fit the genre of the game I was playing. I’m not a big fighting game guy, but being able to swap out the module to have a six-button fighting game controller made a world of difference when it came to my experience playing. Switching out the modules and thumbsticks was an easy process that didn’t feel like a chore when I wanted to make the change; it was just a quick swap out, and I was ready to play. The ergonomic grip helps to keep the controller in your hands without slipping and sliding around. As I mentioned earlier, adding weights to the controller or swapping out the triggers would be a great improvement. Overall, the modules make playing your favorite games more enjoyable.
If you are in the market for a pro-level controller, the Victrix Pro BFG Controller should be on your consideration list. It gives players a ton of tools to customize the controller for their needs. Whether it’s swapping out a module to put in the six-button fight pad to kick some butts, or utilizing the controller hub to map out your extra buttons, you won’t be disappointed picking up the Victrix Pro BFG Controller.
