Sony PlayStation Experience Biggest Reveals

There was so much information it’s hard to pick just one thing that was the biggest. Guess we’ll just have to give you everything we can!

Uncharted_4_Reveal_WallpaperUncharted 4 was a huge starting point at the key note and had a very strong presence there. The trailer that we saw at the keynote showed us that there may be branching conversation choices throughout the game. The possibility of character dynamics being based on choice in Uncharted 4 is a very exciting prospect. I’m still blown away with how close to photo realism Naughty Dog is getting. We also got a chance to play a part of the campaign and multi-player. The campaign segment was the same as the reveal trailer at E3 this year, but I didn’t play for the story this time. I played to test out the mechanics and game play. I have to say the gameplay is crazy smooth. Everything from taking cover to shooting your guns feel natural. It’s almost like playing a Nathan Drake Simulator. The multi-player had a similar experience with little to no lag during our playtime. I never paid a huge amount of attention to it, but I may have to now based on the good time I had. Uncharted 4 will be making its way exclusively to PlayStation 4 on March 18, 2016.

Yakuza 5 and Yakuza Zero were also announced for release in the west on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 respectively. Yakuza 5 is available this week on PS3 and we will hopefully have a review for you all soon! As for Yakuza Zero, it’s been announced and we don’t know much aside that the game is a prequel to the original Yakuza game.

Ratchet and Clank: I was very surprised to see Ratchet and Clank be met with so much fervor during the key note. Insomniacs long running franchise has a big month in April of 2016. We were
treated to not only game play but a new trailer for the upcoming movie. Both will be released in April. The game based on the movie (based on the game) will be released on the 12th with the movie being released on the 28th.  I had a chance to play a demo of the game on the show floor was really impressed with how natural the game play was. I can remember playing the first game way back in the early in the PlayStation 2 era. I enjoyed it back then but this is a whole new level. I’m looking forward to both prospects in April.

NiOh: This one took a lot of people by surprise as well. I’ve been a longtime fan of Team Ninja. Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive are great franchises. Ninja Gaiden 3 was a huge disappointment but Dead or Alive 5 was amazing. I’m really hoping this is their grand return to the awesome action games they are known for. The series seems like a mix between Capcom’s Onimusha series and Ninja Gaiden, both of which are respectable franchises. The small bit of gameplay shown showed intense sword fights and demon slaying.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom was announced to incredible fanfare. The game appears to maintain the Studio Ghibli inspired art style, along with a new cast and story. I’m very fond of the first game; its charm was very warm and it was a very well designed RPG during lean RPG years.

Call of Duty Black Ops III: Sony and Activision had quite a bit to announce at the show. The big getails are that they would be adding a new map pack that would be exclusive to PlayStation 4 for 30 days, as well as the a new gaming league, the Sony sponsored Call of Duty World League, would be opening up. It’s awesome. But not as awesome as the next game.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: This was absolutely the biggest news set at the show. The first thing was seeing the trailer. The E3 trailer was a serious hype builder. There were people who legitimately cried at the announcement of the remake. This trailer that revealed gameplay…and it showed how the cutscenes could look. I had a hard time staying in my seat during the keynote. It was way too hype. Later on in the weekend Square Enix revealed some more news as well.  Final Fantasy VII Remake will be an episodic adventure. How many parts it’ll have remains unspecified. But we also do know the game is being created using the the Unreal 4 Engine and that Cyber Connect 2 is working on the cutscenes. For those who are not familiar with CyberConnect 2, they made the awesome .Hack series and one of my personal favorite games, Asura’s Wrath. They do exceptional work with cutscenes and visual stylings. The only real questions on every fans mind now is when are these episodes being released, how many episodes, and at what price point is per game.  Once we know all of these, the only thing left to do is wait. As more details surface we’ll keep you covered!
