SonicBoom_08-5Part 2 starts off with X, Axl, and Zero in hot pursuit of Sigma after he disappeared into a Genesis Portal. Instead of finding him, they emerge in the Sonic Boom universe and form an unlikely alliance with Sticks. Sticks and her furry friends are mismatched with X’s more serious crew, though writer Ian Flynn makes it work. In the meanwhile, Sonic and Mega Man find themselves in great peril after they were ambushed by the Deadly Six in the previous issue. Captured and at the mercy of the diabolic doctors, they are forced into becoming mindless pawns.

Dan Schoening’s penciling and Jack Morelli’s lettering are excellent, once again capturing the essence of each series. The colors are slightly more muted and earthy, which fits the Sonic Boom universe as well as X’s team.

With the main heroes sidelined up until the end, Part 2 continues on building on what Part 1 started. Wily and Eggman’s plans slowly come to fruition at the expense of our blue heroes.  Unfortunately, there’s still a lack of fast paced action and banter that made World’s Collide a fun read. There are events that occurred in between issues, but sadly they have to be read in a different issue. There doesn’t seem to be enough pages to balance out character development and action.  Hopefully all this set up will pay off when Sonic and Mega Man are reunited as either friend or foe.
