Brides of HelHeim #4 Review

Story by Cullen Bunn
Art By Joëlle Jones
Colors by Nick Filardi
Published By Oni Press

I am pretty convinced that writer Cullen Bunn has an idea making factory because once again, he has caught my interest in a brand new series. Brides of Helheim is now on issue four and the plot is thickening. Not only the plot is getting better, but the pencilling and colors brings this issue out even more! Where the story left off, the sinister warlock Raevil sent a valkyrie to “take care” of our undead hero Rikard. During the fight, Raevil is in the process of unleashing an undead army but, Rikard’s sidekick is trying to stop him. Things are bad but man, I cannot wait to see what is coming up next. HH2

This issue is action packed from beginning to end. Cullen Bunn did an excellent job showing the disgust and hatred between Rikard and death’s handmaiden. The reader can feel the hatred Rikard has towards her due to being denied to pass on to the next life. The same goes for the death maiden! When she sees Rikard in his undead state, she goes all out to kill the monstrosity. I couldn’t decide myself on who I want to win this battle. With everything that is going on, Cullen Bunn did an excellent job on pushing the story through without leaving loose ends. Some of the best parts of the book were the dialogue between Rikard and the death maiden. My personal favorite is near the end (don’t worry, I will not spoil it for you).

The art in this book is simply gorgeous. I am not sold on the facial expressions of the human characters but, Joëlle Jones definitely knows how to draw a fight sequence. Mixed with the colors that Nick Filardi provides, the issue is very beautiful. Even the box placements were done in way that it increases the reader’s experience on what is happening. One of the best things about this book is where the fighting is taking place. Land, sea, and air, Joëlle Jones did an excellent job on the environmental landscapes. It shows how crazy this fight is going on.

Overall, I think this book is a hidden treasure. Its very vibrant, the story may be simple, but the presentation of it is epic. Even the art is telling you a story in itself. This one is one to check out. I do not think anyone would disappointed
