Bad Blood #2 Review

Bad Blood #2

Dark Horse Comics
Written by Jonathan Maberry
Art by Tyler Crook

This is a series that has a lot more to offer than it seems at first glance. I was intrigued by the first issue because it was fun and offered a unique look at a male cancer patient’s encounter with a vampire.   I’m happy to report that the second issue is just as engaging, interesting and surprising as the first one was.  This really is a delight to discover, and since there is no real hype to speak of, it’s discovering these little known gems that make reading such a pleasure.

This issue heats up when Trick runs into a suspicious character outside a vampire club.  Looks can be deceiving though, as an intense friendship is formed from their meeting.  The dialogue is scripted beautifully and getting to know them this way was enjoyable to say the least. How the writer allows these characters to interact is something so rarely portrayed in comics. Jonathan not only nails it but creates an unlikely friendship that you find yourself rooting for.

I love the way that these two converse with each other and how they have such differing views on the subjects of vampires. Lolly’s desire to become a creature of the night and the exploration of the city’s mysterious night life was superbly rendered by Tyler and is truly something to behold. The ending of this issue has an interesting cliffhanger that leaves you begging for more, which leaves me with the impression that is a comic you may regret missing out on.
