Loki Agent of Asgard #1 Review

Loki Agent of Asgard #1

Marvel Comics
Written by Al Ewing
Art by Lee Garbett

Notably the premise of Loki and how he was used, especially after the events in Young Avengers, has caught my eye.  I’ve never been the biggest Marvel fan, nor am I terribly familiar with Thor or Asgard beyond the universes of New Mutants and X-Men. However, this book was a great start to a series and picks up where the character left off from the YA title.

Visually, Lee Garbett made this book into a work of art.  It’s gorgeously rendered and suits the characters wonderfully. For those who are attracted to Loki, page two and the full shower scene are a fan service treat. It is kind of romanticized but seeing as who the subject is, it is pretty accurate.

ANMNPOINTONE2014001-int-LR2-1-70ec9The All-Mother contracts Loki with a mission while he’s singing in the shower.  Of course, it involves his brother Thor to some extent. The writing plays heavily here, as Al Ewing’s narrative brings to light some absolutely delightful references.  Notice though, that the portrayal of Thor in this book exudes the feeling that there was something off about him.

What is Loki’s end-game beyond the task he was given? It will be interesting to speculate about the on-goings of this series and the hopes that it will renew faith in Marvel books. The cliffhanger ending also goes a long way in setting things up for future story arcs.

Overall score: 8/10
