Crunchyroll Expo 2022 will have an exciting new feature this year: New Crunchy City Music Fest. The three-day celebration will include domestic and international artists and will headline the progressive J-POP group ATARASHII GAKKO! for the first day.
Included in the tickets for Crunchyroll Expo, the music festival will feature a new headlining performance each day along with multiple artists from across the world. Some performances will even be available via streaming and/or video on demand. Additional details, as well as new artist announcements, will be available soon.
”Crunchyroll Expo is more than just an anime convention, it transports fans into the world of anime, connecting them to each other and the content they love through panels, premieres, meet and greets, and more,” said Gita Rebbapragada, Crunchyroll’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Now in our sixth year, we’re excited to introduce the New Crunchy City Music Fest, allowing fans everywhere to enjoy the music powering up their lives and their favorite series.”
The first headlining group, ATARASHII GAKKO!, is redefining the concept of girl groups in Japan. Their music richly combines multiple genres, from modern J-Pop to Showa-era kayokyoku, to rap, punk, and dance music. Intriguingly, their group clothing is styled after sailor suits (sailor-fuku) worn by Japanese students in the 70s and 80s, featuring long skirts and pulled-up socks. They choreograph their dances themselves, incorporating different styles such as Japanese butoh dance, heavy metal headbanging, and hip-hop street dancing.
Crunchyroll Expo is an annual celebration, now in its 6th year, and includes all things anime. Separated into four unique ‘districts’, New Crunchy City – the anime metropolis created during Crunchyroll Expo – offers unique artists, shopping centers, panels, world premiers, and much more. Tickets are available both for the in-person event and for online streaming at Crunchyrollexpo.com. The expo runs from August 5-7.
